Introduction:In first career episode, the author describes the project he did when he was enrolled in the 4-year bachelor's program at C.M engineering College. This career episode is based on his graduation project named as; “Design and Analysis of Main Rotor Blade of Helicopter with Maximum All-Up-Weight of 1500 kg”.

Background: The main objective of this project was to design the rotor system of the helicopter to provide it with the lift. The scope of the project involved the sizing of helicopter rotor wing with provided specifications. For the light utility helicopter, the All-Up-Weight was kept at 1500 kg, the range was 550 km, endurance of 3.2 hrs, a service ceiling of 5500 m, and cruising speed of 205 kmph. The designing and analysis process was carried out using UNIGRAPHICS and ANSYS.

During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:

Project Name: “Analysis on a convective cooling method using stator blade”

Introduction:In second career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he was completing his Bachelor of Technology in Aeronautical engineering. This career episode is based on his graduation project named as; “Analysis on a convective cooling method using stator blade”.

Background:Surface cooling of state blade is very important for the blade life because the inlet temperature produced by the burning fuel in turbine gas engine was beyond the melting point of the blade material. Therefore, in this project, a study was carried out on different turbine blade cooling methods. The scope of this project was to study and conduct analysis on the best cooling method like convective heat transfer for the slow speed engines, as their abundant availability of high-pressure cooling air as a coolant, to cool the turbine blade and the analysis of various methods to increase the cooling effectiveness. In this project, I used a stator blade with a twist of 45 in its angle supplying the air through the surface of stator blade material by using convection cooling method. Hence the stator blade analysis was carried out by commercial CFD/CFX package.

During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:

  • Developing and implementing the timeline to reach the goals.
  • Arranging various meetings between supervisor and team members.
  • Supervising the work done by the group members and finished the project in required duration.
  • Preparing progress report of the project on the weekly basis and giving the presentation to the supervisor and the head of the department to explain my weekly work.
  • Performing cost estimation and supervising the materials in use

Project Name: “Process of Calculating Flow Through a C-D Nozzle”

Introduction:In third career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he was enrolled in the 4-year bachelor's program. This career episode is based on his graduation project named as; “Process of Calculating Flow Through a C-D Nozzle”.

Background:Main objective of this project was to overcome the damages created by the airflow on the turbine blades using sustainable cooling methods. We were struck implementing a reliable solution while carrying out various convection cooling techniques. After thorough research, tried out every existing technique such as film cooling, impingement cooling and transpiration cooling, and then finally came up with an idea of twisting the turbine blades up to 45-degree angle, which was the final remedy we found for this drawback and executed positively.

During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:

  • Designing a task chart for this project and assigning dates to complete the project within given time frame
  • Coordinating with the supervisor to discuss the initial steps of this project
  • Got training on ANSYS Fluent software
  • Managing the team members and supervising their activities
  • Calculating the parameters for the nozzle and plotted points of the graphs
