Polymer Engineer CDR Report Sample
The Competency Demonstration Report Sample for Polymer Engineer includes all the necessary reports such as Three Career Episodes, Continuing Professional Development and Summary Statement. The Content of the Polymer Engineer CDR Report Sample is as follow:
Polymer Engineer Career Episode Report 1
Project Name: “Alkyd – Resin Properties Analysis”
Introduction: In first career episode, the author describes the project he did when he was pursuing his bachelor’s degree inPolymer & Textile Engineering. This career episode is based on his project named as; “Alkyd – Resin Properties Analysis”.
Background: The major aim of this project was understanding the concept involved in the manufacture or preparation of alkyds. After this, the author set-up experiments aimed at determining the characteristic behavior of the varying preparation temperatures. He provided insight on the effect of temperature on the viscosity of alkyd resin in solutions. He thus analyzed the factors that affected the viscosity of alkyd resins such as the molecular mass which was directly proportional to the viscosity, chain branching, polymer aggregations, the solvents amongst others. The other major objective was managing the resources allocated to this project ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.
During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:
- Studied the properties of the alkyd resins such as strength and determined the chemical process systems.
- Monitored the operation and maintenance of equipment achieving maximum efficiency under safe working conditions.
- Planned and implemented the experimental procedure developing an insight into the effect of temperature on adopted alkyd resin.
- Made economic decisions aimed at constraining the implementation costs within the affordability limits.
- Managed this project through the application of work breakdown structures to profile and assign activities in this project.
Polymer Engineer Career Episode Report 2
Project Name: “Mechanical Properties of Composites”
Introduction: In second career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he wasa candidate in National Youth services Corps. This career episode is based on his project named as; “Mechanical Properties of Composites”.
Background: The major objective of this project was evaluating and determining mechanical properties of HDPE matrix filled with PALP filler and MAPE as a coupling agent. The incorporation of PALP, which was biodegradable to the matrix, induced a biodegradability aspect to the HDPE and thus contributing to environmental conservation. More so, the addition of constituents such as PALP and MAPE was aimed at enhancing the engineering properties widening the scope of engineering applications for the composite.
During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:
- Determined the effects of PALP filler and MAPE coupling agent on the mechanical properties of HDPE matrix composites.
- Evaluated the biodegradability of the HDPE composite incorporated with the filler and the coupling agent.
- Produced and recommended the constituents to a composite that was biodegradable and with negligible impact on the environment.
- Managed this project Implementation by use of work breakdown structures that conjured up a plan for the sequential incorporation of all aspects in this project.
- Made the economic decisions and considerations that constrained the implementation costs in this project within the budget allocations.
Polymer Engineer Career Episode Report 3
Project Name: “Converting Batch to Continuous Process”
Introduction: In third career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he wason industrial training while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Polymer engineering. This career episode is based on his project named as; “Converting Batch to Continuous Process”.
Background: The major objective of this project was modifying the existing polyurethane production increasing product time using conveyors integrated into a continuous process. He identified that the foam production process was classified into either batch, semi-batch, or continuous process. Batch and process involved the manual mixing of ingredients in a vessel whereas the semi-batch process involves mixing of chemical stored in storage tanks via a mixing head and then were metered into a mound forming the slab-stock. Adopted continuous process involved the creamy aerosol fluid from the mixing head dispensed into a conveyor mold with the slab stock continuously emanating from the mold and was cut in the required sizes. This reduced downtime as the slab-stock making was continuous and involved no manual input; the production process was continuous enabled by the conveyor system. The other major objective was fabricating a model lab-size prototype for effectiveness testing.
During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:
- Prepared the design for the foam process systems and planned the control systems for the mixing head and conveyor interface and also controlled the slab stock handling properties.
- Selected the correct fabrication materials through in-depth material analysis aided by engineering software ensuring they conformed to the product specifications.
- Simulated the design with now the material making the various components in the conveyor mechanism integrated with the aerosol making phase and optimized for interoperability between the various phases in the process.
- Fabricated a prototype model of the process, monitored the operation and maintenance techniques for equipment and evaluated its efficiency under the recommended safety operation.
- Managed this project to completion via established relationship between various aspects of the project and documented the various activities in this project creating a base for future reference
Polymer Engineer Summary Statement
