Project Name: “Synthesis of Fe/TiB2-TiC composite by mechano-chemical alloying & combustion synthesis using Ferro-Titanium & Ferro Boron”

Introduction: In second career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he was pursuing his master’s degree in Material’s engineering. This career episode is based on his project named as; “Synthesis of Fe/TiB2-TiC composite by mechano-chemical alloying & combustion synthesis using Ferro-Titanium & Ferro Boron”.

Background: Both boron and titanium are enormously expensive elements. On the other hand, many Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) are reinforced by borides and carbides such as TiB2 and TiC and these composites have different employment in different industries. In my thesis I have produced a composite including both TiB2 and TiC without using pure titanium and Boron. In order to execute the project, the author decided to use Ferro-titanium and Ferro-boron as raw materials which are way cheaper than titanium and boron. He also decided to implement production methodology which are energy effectual and don’t need multifaceted and expensive equipment. He finalized Mechanical Alloying & Self-propagating high temperature synthesis.

Project Name: “Synthesis & Characterization of FeCo/TiC Nano-composite via Mechano-Chemical Synthesis Method”

Introduction: In third career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he was working as Material Engineer. This career episode is based on his project named as; “Synthesis & Characterization of FeCo/TiC Nano-composite via Mechano-Chemical Synthesis Method”.

Background: The main aim of this project was to investigate whether is it possible to produce this kind of composite using Ferro Titanium (FeTi2) as the cheap raw material and what are the main important factors in producing this composite. Although Mr. Yaghoobi has fabricated this kind of composite using another grade of Ferro titanium (FeTi), I decided to produce this composite with other grade which was easier to find and much cheaper. The Ferro titanium which he used had 71%wt titanium but the Ferro titanium which I used had 36%wt Titanium which means it was cheaper.
