Introduction: In second career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he was working as Engineering & Design Coordinator (Senior Civil Engineer). This career episode is based on his project named as; “Study & Design of urban Infrastructure of Libyan City Al Marj along with Design & Construction of drainage system”.

Background: Elaborating the aforementioned studies and designs, which included potable water storage and distribution systems including pump stations, sewage collection and transportation including pump stations, Drainage System including macro-drainage and surface drainage.

During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:

Project Name: “Operation & Maintenance of the Panama-Colon Highway & Construction of (Asphalt) Flexible Pavement”

Introduction: In third career episode, the author explains the engineering skills he used when he was working as Head of Civil Engineering Segment. This career episode is based on his project named as; “Operation & Maintenance of the Panama-Colon Highway & Construction of (Asphalt) Flexible Pavement”.

Background: Project was granted by the Ministry of Public Works for the operation and maintenance of the Panama-Colón Highway and construction of Flexible Pavement. Within the scope of the CMC, in addition to carrying out routine maintenance and operation activities, its facilities were expanded, and an additional office building and a building for user attention were implanted. Also, a technological center for controlling the operation of the highway was implemented. Among the operating activities were traffic control, toll collection, attention to vehicular accidents and other activities that had to do with the functionality and commercialization of the right of way. Among the maintenance activities, were the works of stabilization of slopes, cleaning of drainage devices, construction of new flexible pavements, replacement of signaling and security devices, among others.

During the time, the responsibilities of the author were to:

  • Project initial planning & design according to client need.
  • Design Calculations and problems/issues rectification.
  • Planning, coordination and control of engineering and construction activities, according to specifications, schedule and costs, as well as the preparation of progress reports and billing reports for invoicing of the services performed.
  • Mobilization and supervision of the teams of the engineering department of the CMC and the commercial departments of the works.
  • Definition of processes and elaboration of procedures and controls for the construction of Flexible Pavement as per my calculation and suggestions.
